Action is Imperative
Is
true that our human growth is causing such damage to our planet it may imperil
future generations? Do recent facts that climate change is
"unequivocal” and that human activity is partially responsible for this
warming? If this is true it is prudent for us to best go forth with a
call for action.
First the US has been the leading per capita contributor. Also industrial development in China and India has stimulated more coal burning. Each year we break temperature records with scientists reporting increases in climate change, including faster melting of polar ice that had not been predicted.
If we continue to seriously not address this situation all
on this planet will greatly suffer. For example such weather extreme’s include
Hurricane Sandy’s $50 billion plus damages Other costs include one
quarter of all plant and animal species face the risk of extinction if
temperatures increase by 2.7 °F; by 2020, 75 million to 250 million people in
Africa will suffer water shortages, residents of Asia's large cities will be at
great risk of river and coastal flooding, Europeans can expect extensive
species loss, and North Americans will experience longer and hotter heat waves
and greater competition for water; and more GHG emissions could bring
"abrupt and irreversible" changes, such as the loss of ice sheets in
the poles, and a corresponding rise in sea levels by several yards. This is
happening.
Many
Americans are unaware how fast this is happening since there is a tipping point
regarding climate change. This means things
are declining faster than first reported evident by new
data. Each day there is mounting alarming incoming scientific
data.

The
evidence of climate change proves we cannot afford to wait. Even if you
think this planet is not in any peril is it wise to wait and simply see what
happens? What do we do if-- in 10 years our actions result in a point of
no return where our destruction of the earth becomes irreversible? What
is your life experience with what you have seen thus far with your own
surroundings? Are you being honest to both yourself and your children to
believe global warming is not happening?
While
some think climate change is hoax while evidence indicates the contrary. Let’s not error and insured a better future. Whether
you agree or disagree that the burning of fossil fuels, increases in population
growth and other indicators are creating life threatening greenhouse
effects. Also the greater question is—are the facts gathered by experts
alarming enough to act?
