Inner Eco-Design

 
Today's changing and intense circumstances require ingenuity and reverence. Using less, we can re-design a more sustainable future in all our affairs. However, we must first train our minds to be more frugal. Any chance we can first reduce or reuse is paramount to our prosperity.
 
For five decades, I have engaged in many ways to de-carbonize and foster green resource management. I help start recycling programs both in the Washington DC area and throughout the U.S. I even was a national Earth Day organizer in 1980.
 
Today’s challenges is that we both elevate our compassion and allow our insight to cool things down. To lessen the greenhouse effect, we may redesign a greener mental house. The word "Eco" comes from the Greek "Oikos" meaning home. Eco-design constructs your  inner green property using a foundation, walls, and roof.

• FOUNDATION - 1) Virtuous Deeds : Skillful Speech, Action and Livelihood:

• WALLS - 2) Skillful Focus: Energy, Mindfulness, and Concentration

• ROOF - 3) Wisdom - Skillful Understanding and Thought

This greener design will protect us from the harsh weather elements caused by turmoil (inner and outer) and lessen inceasing climate damage.

FOUNDATION: CULTIVATE VIRTUE– Speaking to benefit constructs. Deeds that best manage resources show reverence for all things.

 * Treating all things and ourselves with care and respect demonstrates this compassion.
*Kindly speak the truth with heart and meaning so as to unite. 
*Listen so as to clarify the facts from fiction. *Speak only what is of benefit.
*Living in an eco-friendly way. Living simply so others can simply live - thus insuring future generations. 

2) WALLS: SKILLFULL FOCUS: Cherish Energy, and Mindfulness: All these factors work together. - Walls hold this place and create sacred space.

Cherish Energy: Prevent, Preserve, Protect, and Prosper. Prevent climate change, preserve our resources, protect ourselves, and prosper from these deeds.

Skillful Mindfulness: Remembering and observing what is happening now maintaining present moment awareness. Redesigning securely builds our sacred inner house by getting the walls properly squared.

3) ROOF: WISDOM: Skillful Understanding and Thought: Interconnecting it all together. SEPARATION = SUFFERING. We all are inter - and inner-connected. Are inner worlds and outer worlds merge together.

Now that we have the foundation (virtues) and walls (concentration), what are we missing? We all need protection from our own inner climate change or roof protection. The roof encloses our mental home. Wisdom via skillful understanding caps our eco-structure within. It interconnects the walls and foundation together.

Skillful Understanding: - “everything is interconnected”. For instance, if you are mindless, your roof will leak and damage your walls and foundation.

Skillful Thought: Friendliness, generosity, and compassion. These are roofing materials safeguarding our inner home.

Remember, Eco-design fosters greater insight and compassion.

• Show reverence with generous deeds.

• Concentrate on creating the walls of loving kindness. Love for earth and ourselves unified with an attitude of gratitude.

* Engaging in decarbonization liberates.

Take the word "EARTH" and take the H from the end of it and put it to the front. It spells HEART. Now let us touch our hearts together to prosper. Our Eco-design comes from the Buddhist Noble Eight-fold Path, which fosters greater freedom and joy for all.

Green Spaces Provide Great Economic Potential

This is a guest column thanks to Jack Lundee - "Taking a more progressive green approach." Some of the more heavily discussed topics of early 2010 include obesity, green infrastructure, clean water, and more. In particular, the addition and/or substitution of green spaces have been quite controversial as of late. Senior resident of Urban Land Institute Ed T. McMahon states "Green space adds value to property." Not only would these areas of conservation drive economic trends upward, but they also improve the overall health of the surrounding community. Celebrate Starshine

Dance under the Milky Way, allowing the trillions of lights filtering into the trillions of cells within you.   We are all children of the stars!
